The visitor

Sri Lanka Grey Hornbill (Ocyceros gingalensis) at my home garden.

To the Colombians any place 50kms away from Colombo is jungle except for Kandy and Nuwar Eliya and few other towns. My town eventually is situated between Colombo and Kandy and yet Colombians tend to ignore or at least they pretend to be unfamiliar with the place. Well, who could blame them. They probably would have been sleeping while passing my town.

Anyway, back to the subject. I always tend to drift away from the point. Today, I had a special visitor at my home. A visitor so special, the Colombians would be so happy that they have another clue to prove my town is actually a jungle.

Meet Sri Lanka Grey Hornbill (Ocyceros gingalensis). The picture was taken at my home garden. There were actually a couple and this was not a rare site either. What’s special about this bird is among many birds this one is endemic to Sri lanka. In other words you won’t find this bird any where in the world except Sri Lanka. Oh, yes, I’m a bird guy and this was special, at least to me.
